1
(I swear) By the wind that scatters far and wide,
2
And those that lift and bear heavy loads,
3
And those that flow with ease and gentleness,
4
And those that distribute and apportion by Our command;
5
That of which you are warned is most surely true,
6
And the judgment must most surely come about.
7
Swear by the heaven (sky) full of paths (orbits).
8
Most surely you are in doctrines (opinions, teachings, ideologies) discordant (or inconsistent or contradictory),
9
He is turned away by them from truth, who would be (or wishes to be) turned away.
10
Cursed be the conjecturers (or lie-mongers),
11
Who flounder heedless in an abyss (of ignorance and confusion).
12
They ask, "When will be the day of judgment?"
13
It is the day on which they shall be tried at the Fire.
14
Taste you your torment! This is what you sought to hasten.
15
Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in Gardens and Springs.
16
Taking joy in what their Lord gives them; surely they were before that, the doers of good.
17
They used to sleep but little in the night.
18
And in the morning they prayed for forgiveness.
19
And in their wealth a portion was allotted for him who asked (the needy) and to him who was denied (the outcast, the deprived person or the one who could not ask).
20
And in the earth there are signs for those who have sure faith,
21
And also in your own souls; will you not then see?
22
And in the heaven is your sustenance and that which you are promised.
23
And by the Lord of the heavens and the earth! It is most surely the truth, even as you speak.
24
Has there come to you information about the honoured guests of Abraham?
25
When they entered his presence they said, "Peace. Peace." Said he, "What a strange people."
26
Then he turned aside to his family secretly and brought a fat (roasted) calf,
27
And placed it before them. He said, "What! Will you not eat?"
28
(When they did not eat) he conceived in his mind a fear of them. They said, "Fear not." And they gave him the good news of a son endowed with knowledge.
29
Then his wife came up in great grief, and she struck her face and said, "An old barren woman!"
30
They said, "Thus says your Lord: Surely He is the Wise, the Knowing."
